Celebrating 80 Years Of HMS Belfast

To accompany the diverse array of celebrations of the HMS Belfast at 80 we were approached by the Imperial War Museums to develop an immersive online experience portraying her many fascinating stories and adventures to appeal to a wide ranging audience from school children, the general public, history enthusiasts and those who had the privilege and honor of serving aboard.

With the central theme being around the concept of a timeline we developed a robust and modular framework using Vue.js that allowed us to build limitless modules to act as key dates. These then branched off from the main timeline taking the user into a world of discovery and intrigue by use of a flexible content builder allowing, editors to piece together, text, image, audio, and video modules enhanced with custom css and GSAP animations to tell the story.

The application was later adapted to be used on touch screen displays in an exhibition aboard the HMS Belfast herself. The flexible framework we established in the online version allowed us to easily adapt the UI accordingly to be more suited to touch screen navigation and port the build to a stand alone full screen app that would work offline.
